Turnkey Website Instructions

A word of warning!

Please always make a backup of any files before editing them! To edit files, open them in notepad or wordpad, not word – extra code may be inserted which will cause problems. Always turn 'word-wrap' off, as this can also cause problems. All filenames are case-sensitive i.e. adsense is not the same as Adsense or ADSENSE.

Software hints...

For each of the methods below, you will need a search and replace tool. We recommend (InfoRapid), which is a freeware utility and simple to use.

If you need an FTP program, see FileZilla, which is an excellent free program. All files should be uploaded in 'auto' mode, which will ensure your files do not get corrupted.

Google AdSense

Just follow the simple instructions and your AdSense account will be setup. If you do not have an existing website, enter http://demo.littlefishwebhosting.co.uk/ as your website. To find your AdSense ID, login to your AdSense account and click "My Account" at the top. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Property info". Here you will need to look for "Adsense for Content". Your adsense for content number should look like "ca-pub-1234567891123456".

Once you have your publisher ID number for AdSense, do a search and replace on the files that make up your site, search for "6949971987889819" and replace this with your AdSense ID.

Other Affiliate Programs

Google AdSense isn’t the only way to make money from your site. By joining schemes such as Commission Junction, ClickBank and TradeDoubler, you can pick from hundreds of advertisers and put their code on your pages. Whenever one of your visitors clicks on a link and buys a product, you'll get a commission. All three schemes are suitable for UK use – you either get paid direct to your bank account or by PayPal. Once your site has a track record of visitors, apply to Text Link Ads and display their ads on your pages. Also, think about putting products in from Amazon - just paste the code they provide into your website where you want it to display.

Affiliate links work by paying you a commission everytime someone clicks through your special link to their site and completing a specified action. In the case of eBay.co.uk, you get paid 12p everytime someone either places a bid, or does a 'buy it now'. If they open an eBay account through your link you get paid £7. If you are a super affiliate and send them lots of business, these rates increase. eBay.com have similar payouts. Many programs, particularly in the business and finance categories offer much more than this.

Commission Junction handles eBay and many other affiliates, and TradeDoubler does a very similar job. They track all your clicks and earnings and everytime your account reaches a specified threshold amount (£16 for CJ) by a certain date in the month, they pay you directly into your bank account. If you don't have enough that month, it will roll over until you reach the payment threshold. You can sort their affiliate by the amount they pay, their performance, what category they fall under and many other factors. This means that if you have a specific niche site, you can find programs to match that niche and increase your income - think about it...if you were visiting a pet site, would you be more likely to click on a pet-related link or one related to computer hardware?

Promoting Your Website

Submit your site to directories (search engine friendly directory list) and exchange links with other webmasters (LinkMetro). If you need a reciprocal link script which is simple and straightforward to use and fully installed on your site using your site's existing design, with instructions, just contact us - you will need linux-based hosting with a database, be able to give us temporary access to your website and just £15!

Building Your Network of Sites

Once you have your first site up and running, you'll want to expand your network. Using different domain registrars depending on the TLD ('top level domain' e.g. .com) is the most cost effective way to buy your domains. For example, 1&1 is cheapest for .co.uk domains whilst GoDaddy have the cheapest .com domains.

If you want hosting as well, we recommend 1&1 for UK hosting and GoDaddy for other hosting.
